Things They Don’t Tell You at the Orientation or on the Website

Remember how everybody was too excited to just get out of their uniforms phase and take a leap right from school to college life?

Yes…..me too!

If college life is the first step to maturity, NMIMS life is definitely the first step to adulthood.

Even though you’ve been exposed to the college environment before you enter NMIMS, the orientation still hits different. The orientation is always very exciting, or as I might call it the calm before the storm.

Jokes aside, things that they tell you at the orientation just get you going. They give you a sense of purpose for your college life ahead.

But what about the things that they don’t tell you at the orientation?

Is that what makes your actual college life extremely different from your perceived one?

There’s one thing that pops up in every NMIMS student’s mind:

Attendance

While they give you proper disclosure of the 80% attendance rule, you cannot mistake it as any other Mumbai Universities attendance rule as NMIMS is pretty strict with its 80% attendance and the lack of which can restrain you from giving your exams also.

Exploit the resources

The website or even at the orientation, all the information regarding the resources is given. But what they don’t tell you is how to use it. NMIMS resources are gems. If used properly, it can take the student to great heights. The quality of the faculty is really good and that too should be exploited.

Its okay to not be in any clubs

Clubs form most of the orientation. Every club pitches itself in the best way possible to get new members. This would make quite an image in the minds of the people, that they have to join a club for surviving college. The reasons might be making friends, networking or even having fun. But nobody tells you that this is not the most important thing.

The most important thing is to make friends. Even if it means going out of your comfort zone and doing that. The bonds made here will stay with you forever. So if you need a club to do that…..sure, go right ahead. But that is not the only way!

Never have FOMO

Having FOMO makes you do weird things.

While there are things that we hope somebody should have told us earlier, there are also some unsaid things that have turned out quite well.

Nobody told us that we were going to study on the 7th and 8th floor of the Mithibai Building, but that gave us our beloved windy staircase and Sai and Aditi Canteens.

NMIMS will make you meet people from all round the world. You would have never thought that you could be friends with some of them, but these people tend to become your college survival kits. These bonds are precious

Clubs give you the best memories of your college life with events like Talent Hunt, WTF days, Traditional day, and also the third year sales activity.

NMIMS does not just give you great friends, but teachers to remember forever.

In conclusion, there is nothing that will be said in the orientation or on the website that will help you as much as your own experience .

NMIMS has a lot to offer, you just have to look for it!
